How Does the Cascade Work? (Getting that 5-Year Visa)
The system grants longer visas based on your previous lawful use of Schengen visas
Step 1 (1-Year Visa) For those who have obtained and lawfully used one Schengen visa within the previous 2 years.
Step 2 (2-Year Visa) For those who have obtained and lawfully used a previous multiple-entry visa valid for 1 year within the previous 3 years.
Step 3 (5-Year Visa) For those who have obtained and lawfully used a previous multiple-entry visa valid for 2 years within the previous 4 years.
Important Note
This is NOT a Visa Exemption Is this a "free visa"? The answer is no. Thai nationals still need to prepare documents and go through the standard Schengen visa application process. However, if you maintain an excellent travel record, the embassy is highly likely to grant you a longer-validity visa based on this cascade system.
